INTRODUCTION

My name is Alex Rodrigues, Director of the First Art
Lines Nucleus, Communication and Culture. The Nucleus is
a project that has been developing pedagogical activities
on art and education for children and adolescents for 14
years. Our work aims at training young people, coming


from poor families, through communication workshops that
teach them the techniques for making comic strips and
educational campaigns. It also encourages them to read
children´s books, newspapers and magazines.

In this way, we intend to give the opportunity to
children and adolescents to develop their creative power
and at the same time to invest in their moral and
intelectual upbringing, keeping them busy and away from
the streets.

Therefore, the First Art Lines Nucleus, is open to
partnership proposals in order to join efforts to build a
better society.

SPEAK UP CHILD PROJECT
An inclusive proposal

Aim

The aim of the project is to contribute to the formation
of children and adolescents´citizenship, specially those
coming from poor families, to take them out of the
streets as well as to estimulate their critical sense, in
order to turn them into adults capable of facing the
world reality.

THE SPEAK UP CHILD NEWSPAPER

It´s developed and published every two months by the
comic strips creation workshop, under the coordination of
the First Art Lines Nucleus, Communication & Culture,
which has been working for 14 years with art and
education of young people. The newspaper gives a great
opportunity for poor children and adolescents to develop
their ideas and creativity, giving their contribution to
society. The project also aims at discovering and
launching new talents in the publishing and graphic
design market.

CONTENT

It is a publication for children and teenagers, and the
whole society, in general, with the aim of providing
information, education and socialization. The Speak Up
Child newspaper is made of many sessions on different
cultural subjects. It talks about social-cultural,
scientific and manners subjects, with a space dedicated
to CMDCA (Children and Adolescent Municipal Council),
UNICEF, UNESCO, Culture Department and Education
Department. The newspaper is illustrated with
children comics and drawings. The texts are
developed and produced by children and adolescents under
the coordination of First Lines Community Workshop of
Comic Strips Creation Project.

METHOD

To achieve its aims, the project intends to develop the
creative power of these young people through various
activities, such as: graphic arts, graphic design,
illustration, comic strips, artistic design, and through
the encouragement of reading and writing.

DISTRIBUTION: DIRECTED

The Speak Up Child newspaper will be distributed in the
whole municipal education network, cultural centres,
libraries and government and non-government institutions.

PUBLIC

The Speak Up Child newspaper and the campaign for
children and adolescents rights are an exclusive action
of the First Art Lines Nucleus. Bring it to the public
